Strata 3 - Series I #2

The result of over a year of working with generative handwriting synthesis, Daniel has built a system to allow him to experiement with text as texture.

This design uses a combintion of three different handwriting styles, one cursive, one semi-cursive and block letters, and three sets of characters; all uppercase, all lowercase and numbers. Text is built up layer by layer to produce a cross-section of rock strata.

Unlike traditional print which is geared towards replicating a design (limited edition print runs), this process creates a unique output each time the code is run, no two artworks are the same.

This is a trial first-edition short-run of eight plots. Marked with V.E. I for variable-edition, series I.

Plotted in archival ink on superior quality "natural white" (really cream) 300gsm watercolour paper made by St Cuthberts Mill which comes with the Royal Watercolour Society’s endorsement. Made using 100% cotton, the highest quality papermaking material, to high archival standards. Watermarked on the back right, single deckled edge on the left, suitable for standard or float mounted.

Special Instructions:

The ink used in this work is archival-ink, light-fast and fade-resistant, the paper is acid-free and also fade-resistant. That said, it's still probably wise to frame it and hang it somewhere out of direct sunlight.
